A three-year-old boy has been hospitalised after being struck by a car in Sydney’s west, sparking a rapid emergency response.
Shortly before midday, the incident occurred on Greenbank Drive in Blacktown, where the child was reportedly playing near the road. Witnesses swiftly called emergency services, and NSW ambulance paramedics were quickly on the scene.
Recognising the severity of the situation, paramedics decided to activate CareFlight, a specialised emergency helicopter service. According to an NSW ambulance spokesperson, “The quick thinking of bystanders and the immediate response from our paramedics were critical in this situation. The decision to call for CareFlight ensured the child received the highest level of medical care as quickly as possible.”
The CareFlight helicopter, equipped with a team of specialists including a doctor, arrived at the scene within five minutes. The CareFlight helicopter provided the boy with intensive medical treatment on-site before transporting him to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. Thankfully, the toddler is now in a stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
The NSW Police are currently investigating the accident’s cause. Police established a crime scene and seized the involved vehicle, a Honda Accord, for a mechanical examination.
The incident underscores the critical importance of adult supervision for young children near roadways. The NSW Police urge parents and carers to remain vigilant and ensure that children are always within sight when outdoors.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers children face near roads and the importance of swift action in emergencies. The community is reminded to keep a close watch on young ones to prevent similar incidents in the future.
